ABOUT / BIO

I am an Australian visual artist (b.1992) currently based in Finland. My practice includes landscape painting, drawing and fieldwork that reflect my passion for the natural world. Specialising in watercolour on paper, I paint with intricate marks and complex layers to explore the immersive experience of being in the landscape.
My process involves observing, walking, and creating in nature to develop a sense of place and connection to the environment, with a particular focus on my home and local surroundings. The places I live significantly influence my work, from the bushland in Australia to my current home in Central Finland, where I collect inspiration from the neighbouring forests and lakes. Travelling and exploring new places also shape my perspectives, including artist residencies in Australia, Finland, and Iceland.
I have exhibited my work in solo exhibitions, local and international group shows, and prize exhibitions, including the Paddington Art Prize, the SBS Landscape Prize, and the M16 Drawing Prize. Recent shows include group exhibitions in Finland at Taidetila Hoppa, Galleria Toinen Silmä, and Taiteen Talo. In addition to exhibitions, I have led workshops, educational projects, and various projects, including commissions and collaborations. I am a current member of the Finnish Painters' Union and the Jyväskylä Artists' Association in Finland, and I hold a Bachelor of Design from Swinburne University in Australia. My paintings are in public collections at the Southern Midlands Council and the Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery in Australia.
“…using watercolours to achieve depth and nuanced light, Lauren’s works are a testament to her finely honed observational skills and technical mastery. The impact of Lauren’s art is tangible, deeply resonating with observers and providing a lush window into the Australian landscape. ”
